FBMA International Blitz Chess Tournament for Ladies - Sixth Edition

With over 150 players from various nationalities participating, the tournament was conducted according to the Swiss system, spanning 9 rounds.

Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwomen of the Family Development Foundation and under the guidance of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and the Fatima bint Hazza Cultural Foundation, FBMA International Blitz Chess Tournament for Ladies - Sixth Edition concluded today, Saturday. The tournament was organized according to the Swiss system, spanning 9 rounds, with a blitz playing system, each round lasting three minutes. The tournament witnessed the participation of over 150 players from diverse nationalities, showcasing their skills and capabilities. The matches were professionally managed by an Emirati refereeing team.

 

The tournament was held at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy headquarters in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Abu Dhabi Chess Club, and Mind Games, with (150) participants across various categories. The events were attended by Dr. Omniyat Mohammed Al-Hajeri, Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women's Sports Academy, Naama Abdul Rahman Al Mansoori, a member of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, and Amal Abdul Qadir Al Afifi, a member of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, and His Excellency Hussein Abdullah Khoury, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mind Games Club, and His Excellency Ibrahim Mohammed Al Marzouqi a member of the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mind Games Club. In the women's category, Maria Gevorgin claimed first place, followed by Huserno in second place, while Shama Amer secured third place.

 

Prizes for the best players in each category were awarded to Emirati players, with Rawda Al-Afifi receiving the award for the best Emirati player under 12 years old, Maryam Al Qubaisi as the best Emirati player under 10 years old, and Maria Al Balushi  as the best Emirati player under 8 years old.

 

In this regard, Dr. Omniyat Mohammed Al-Hajeri, Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, emphasized that the success of the sixth edition of the event is part of the academy's vision to support and enhance women's participation in sports and strengthen their skills in society. She said: "We are proud of the great success of the tournament, which saw the participation of over 150 players from different nationalities. We provided a suitable competitive environment for all women participating in the event and ensured the presence of specialized refereeing teams with sufficient experience to manage local and international tournaments.
